THEY SEE HOW AND WHERE WE NAVIGATE WITH HEIGHTENED SENSITIVITY.
NAVIGATION is an act, an activity, an axis. Artists as explorers seek to understand a broad definition of navigation, ranging from adventures into the unfamiliar self to physical points on a map.
Installations, performances, and shared meals guided participants through this discovery on September 13th, 2023 at Djerassi Resident Artists Program. Created by Alex H. Nichols, artist for artists, the event’s mission was to create space for exploration and push the boundaries of thinking and making.

NAVIGATION II : SOLITUDE

Navigation is the act of finding a way to get to a place. 2024's theme was Solitude.
In Solitude, we are confronted with ourselves. Solitude can be chosen or imposed.
Artists were invited to Djerassi Resident Artists Program for one day to explore the idea of Solitude and reflect on personal and cultural rituals of solitariness.
EACH PARTICIPATING ARTIST SHARED A SENTENCE ABOUT SOLITUDE
Solitude is the constant condition of a breeching survivor.
Solitude settles like a rock in half-light minding its own business.
Solitude takes shape as an envelope of time and place.
Solitude reveals the truth that our existence and actions resonate with meaning on their own.
Solitude is the name we give to the waters we wade in when we are reminded of our infinite separateness.
Solitude moves slow.
It takes me through a round circle passing tears, dreams, and imagination to bring me back to myself.
Solitude is a journey alone seeking the missing fragments of oneself hidden in the corners of the mind that could only be dug out by a crawling baby.
Solitude is the time to sit with your guts out, searching for something.
Solitude is a state of existing without being observed
