PINKBOX is a sculpture, installation and performance created in 2022 by multimedia artist Alex Nichols (San Francisco, CA). The pink aluminum box is the size of a woman curled up 36”x32”x34”.

Inside the box a woman moves. The box, which is apparently straightforward, represents the complicated existence of boxes that society, culture, race, and gender place on individuals. Born out of grief and loss, this performance embodies a woman’s determination to overcome personal and social struggles in her roles as mother, wife and daughter. For Alex the PINKBOX is personal, political, and universal.
